Rating: 4.3 / 5 (from 2 reviewers)

Cuisine: South Indian, Indian

79 Second Ave (Between 4th and 5th St)
New York, NY, 10003 United States

The only South Indian in the vicinity of the East Village\'s 6th St Curry Row. Great thalis, dosas, vada, and other South Indian treats you won\'t find elsewhere in this neighborhood. The lunch specials are really good deals too.

I've always liked eating there before, but I didn't LOVE it until recently I tried their dum aloo. it's a baked potato dish that is soaked in some sort of orangish color coconut curry (kind of like masala), and inside, there's green curry- spicey.
I can't describe how good it is in words, but everytime when I think/talk about it it makes me drool. definitely try it if you like potatos.

I just ate lunch here today, and have eaten here dozens of times before. The lunch special is a good deal, only $6.95 with a whole bunch of choices. I love the South Indian stuff, particularly because in this neighborhood it is harder to come by, but the more standard curries are great too. The channa saag is especially tasty, and I do enjoy the red lentil curry with spinach as well. The atmosphere is pretty casual but nicer than counter service, and the guys that work there are really friendly and always remember my orders. This is definitely among my most highly recommended Indian restaurants.
