Sidewalk

Rating: 4 / 5 (from 1 reviewers)

Open late, they serve surprisingly good food. Also a bar with a back area for live music most nights. The black bean and falafel burgers are both pretty good, and the atmosphere is a little divey but fairly quintessential village.

Sidewalk is both a restaurant and a bar, and in the back there is an area for live music on the quiet side. I eat here all the time. It's a go-to place when I have a bunch of non-vegetarians who want American food. The menu is quite large and eclectic, ranging from salads, sandwiches, and wraps to an all-day breakfast. They are vegan-friendly to be sure. Some of my favorites are any of the 3 different types of veggie burger, though I favor the black-bean burger. The cajun fries are very tasty, though if you're feeling healthy the side salad that comes with sandwiches is actually very good and generously portioned. The middle eastern platter is also really tasty. They put these spiced warm chickpeas on top of the hummus. It's surprising just how good everything is actually, since the place looks average but I think the food is a bit above. Also good is the vegetable stir-fry. It'd be nice if they could throw some tofu in there, but the veggies are fresh and flavorful. Vegetarians will have an ever wider selection of options and all reports from my non-vegan friends indicate that the food is generally good and consistent. The place itself is a bit grungy but it has character and the staff are generally friendly. I've certainly never had any problems there. They have a full bar and they are open late, so it's also a good place to linger and have a few drinks while you eat, especially late after a night out.
