Great vegan soul food, the creole soul chicken and cajun shrimp are great but for those who don\\\\\\\'t like fake meats, you might find some of the stuff a little disconcertingly real. If you do like it, you won\\\\\\\'t believe how convincingly real some of the food here is. Also now in Brooklyn.

Red Bamboo is a fantastic and unique restaurant. You won't find many places in the world serving vegetarian soul food. A lot of the almost entirely vegan menu is made up of vegetarian meat which is disconcertingly real, though they do have options if you don't like that sort of thing. The star attraction has to be the Creole Soul Chicken Sandwich, which is so crispy as to bring one to tears. I also particularly enjoy the Cajun Shrimp. Sides like fries and the collard greens with vegetarian ham are good. Also the Filipino Garlic Fried rice is really tasty. I would say that occasionally the sides of vegetables can be a bit dull as they are just steamed, but at a place like this you're better off sticking with fried anyway. The menu is enormous and even though I've been there many times, I still have barely dented it. The portions are huge and really filling, but if you make it through and somehow still have room, they have an ample selection of vegan desserts, usually large slices of vegan cakes that are impossibly delicious (mostly from Vegan Treats.) Sometimes better than ordering entrees is to order a bunch of appetizers and share. This place is no secret which means that at peak times especially on the weekend you could end up waiting for an hour, but if you hit it up and off times or slightly before or slightly after peak times, you can squeeze in. The room isn't big so large parties can be a challenge, but it is cozy and not excessively small or anything. The service has always been really helpful and friendly in my experience, and come to think of it the music is usually pretty good too.
