Meskerem is my current favorite Ethiopian restaurant in New York. There is a branch uptown I haven't visited yet, but I have never left this place disappointed. Occasionally I have left so full I could barely walk, but that's not a problem really. I usually get a vegetarian sampler which comes with your choice of various vegetarian entrees of which they are many from which to choose. The shiro might be one of my favorites, a sort of spicy chickpea mash. I occasionally wish for a fork because I'm not so good at maximizing my food to bread ratio so I end up eating far too much injera, but that's sort of my own fault really, not theirs. Service is a bit on the slow side but friendly. Meat eaters will also be happy here and they will bring things on separate plates no problem so you don't have to share the same bread. Check the pictures for the basic idea if you've never eaten Ethiopian food before, it's definitely worth a visit.
