Chennai Garden is one of many South Indian and completely vegetarian restaurants in the neighborhood of Lexington Avenue and the high 20s, known as Murray Hill or sometimes because of these restaurants, Curry Hill. I have gone here many times, especially for the weekday lunch buffet which is only $6.95 for all you can eat and often has numerous vegan options, though last time I went, there were fewer vegan curries than I remembered in the past, so results on the buffet may vary. That being said, I went for dinner again recently for the first time in a while, and I forgot just how great the menu was and had what I think was my best meal ever there. They have a nice selection of South and North Indian dishes. I generally enjoy the bean dishes such as Chana or Daal or what they call Whole Mooong which is some sort of black chickpea and a bit more firm than the usual. The Bhel Puri is a personal favorite in most places I go and here it was very fresh and tasty. The menu makes it hard to choose, and dairy items are very clearly labeled which is always very helpful. This is definitely one of my favorite Indian places in New York right now.
