More Than Salad

MoreThanSalad is a worldwide directory of vegetarian and vegetarian-friendly restaurants.

Many of these restaurants are completely vegetarian. Some of them are even completely vegan. Others serve fish or meat but have a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. These are included because sometimes the selection of completely vegetarian restaurants in a particular part of the world is a bit limited and more options are always better. Furthermore, many of us have often been in the situation of dining with those who are not vegetarian and it's nice to be able to find places where everybody can be happy.

Though the site does denote what foods are served at a particular restaurant, it is always a good idea to ask at the restaurant how the food is prepared. At many places that are not completely vegetarian, vegetarian food will be prepared alongside non-vegetarian food and often using the same pots and pans. Some people may prefer to not eat at restaurants like this, but in certain parts of the world, it may be necessary and therefore it's important to not be shy and always ask.

MoreThanSalad is designed to help people find vegetarian food near to wherever they are. So the main mode of finding food is by searching for restaurants in proximity to a location such as an address or an intersection, another restaurant, or a major landmark. MTS will tell you what restaurants are nearest and whenever possible show you on a map. This is helpful if you know where you are but don't want to look up tons of restaurants on a map to figure out what is closest.

MoreThanSalad also can filter by what restaurants are open or closed, provided that the hours of the restaurants are known. This can be convenient if you are looking for vegetarian food late at night. As the database grows and more restaurants and their hours are added, this capability will improve.

Anyone can contribute to MoreThanSalad. Accounts are free and always will be, so sign up if you're interested. Of course the site can be searched and most functionality used, but to submit information or upload images you'll have to create an account. There are a few thousand restaurants in the database already, but I promise that is going to grow and grow.

There are many other features coming in the near future now that the beta is finally available. In the next few weeks and months, expect the site to improve quickly and please ask questions and offer suggestions. All ideas are welcome and thanks for your interest in the site!
